JANUARY

Pyrope Garnet, the January birthstone is the most widely recognized color. A reddish brown hue. Garnets come in many colors, such as the fiery orange Mandarin to the rich green Tsavorite Garnet. It is considered a great gift to symbolize friendship and trust.

Amethyst, the February birthstone is a variety of quartz that has spectacular purple color which ranges from a deep blend of violet and red to a light lilac in hue. Ancient Greeks believed that the Amethyst protected the wearer from drunkenness and enabled them to keep a balanced mindset.
MARCH

Aquamarine, the March birthstone ranges in color from a light blue to a deep rich blue, reminiscent of the sea. It is a member of the beryl family. So is the emerald. Sailors wore aquamarines to prevent seasickness. It has long been a symbol of youth, health and hope.
APRIL

Diamond, is the April birthstone. White diamonds are most commonly known. A young diamond is 50 million years old. They come in all colors of the rainbow. More commonly known colors of diamonds are yellow, blue, pink and green. If a diamond is not white in
color, it is known as a "fancy diamond" in the industry. The word diamond means invincible in Greek. It was believed that wearing a diamond would make a person invincible.
MAY

Emerald, the May birthstone has a rich green hue and a vivid tone. Emeralds are the rarest of the birthstones, and come from the beryl family. They are most commonly mined in Columbia and Brazil, but are also mined in Afghanistan and Zambia. They are considered to be the symbol of rebirth and love.
JUNE

Pearl and Alexandrite are the June birthstones. Pearls have been popular for centuries for their natural beauty. Pearls have always been associated with love. The first Alexandrite was found about 150 years ago. They are rare and seldom used for industrial purposes because of their beauty and ability to change color in different lighting.
JULY

Ruby, the July birthstone comes from the corundum family. If corundum is not red, it is called a sapphire. Rubies come in many color grades of red and are the most valuable of the gemstones. It was believed a fine red Ruby bestowed good fortune on its' owner. It is considered the king of all gemstones.
AUGUST

Peridot, the August birthstone is light green in color and is one of only a few gemstones that exists in one color. It is believed that Peridot instills power and influence and will bring the wearer magical powers and properties which stave off nightmares.
SEPTEMBER

Sapphire is the September birthstone. The finest sapphires are a pure rich blue color. Sapphires come in all colors, but red ones are known as rubies. Sapphires represent trust. It was believed that a snake placed in a sapphire box would die. Another belief was the 10 Commandments were written on a Sapphire tablet.
OCTOBER

NOVEMBER
Opals and Tourmalines are the birthstones of October. Opal is the most commonly accepted birthstone for the month of October. Opals are most commonly white and have a rainbow like iridescence which changes colors when viewed from various angles and lighting. Tourmalines come in a rainbow of colors. Romans saw Opals as being mysterious. In Greek mythology Opals were believed to have been Zeus's tears of joy after the victory over the Titians.

Golden Citrine and Golden Topaz are the birthstones of November. The Citrine is said to be a great gift from the sun and possesses healing properties. The golden Citrine is a yellow quartz. The Golden Topaz is a crystal. The Golden Topaz is known for its' energy.
DECEMBER

Blue Topaz, Zircon and Turquoise are the birthstones of December. The Blue Topaz is the most commonly accepted gemstone for the month of December. It was believed to heal physical and mental ailments during the Middle Ages. Zircon comes in all colors, but vivid blue is the most popular. It was believed the Zircon had had the power to heal pain, and prevent travelers from disease and injury. The Turquoise is one of the oldest known gemstones. It was believed that it attracted money, love and success.
